Whatever new initiative being considered there will be a requirement for a level of promotion of proposed ideas, concepts and activities. There is a paradox that in implementing Education for Sustainable Development, we ourselves have to go through a process of development that in itself has to be sustainable. Promoting what is in effect a massive change ultimately in the way we all do things will have its base in education and for that there will be equally massive changes in the way we teach and learn.
Promoting Education for Sustainable Development therefore is an important part of the development process within an individual school or university, throughout the local community as well as at a regional, national and international level. The changes required now reflect the pace at which the world has become ‘globalised’. A global collaboration in the development of ‘sustainable schools’ is now an urgent responsibility for us all.
